EPCOT FOREVER
Celebrate the past, present and future of Epcot through this dazzling fireworks and special-effects spectacular.
Scope: Epcot forever is an all new night time show that replaced Illuminations at Epcot as of October 1, 2019. To create some hype around the new show Disney wanted to post some eye catching cinemagraphs to let Guest have a glimpse into the new show.
Role: Lead Motion Designer. I animated the Epcot logo and was given photo assets of the original concept art for the new show. I first had to layer it out in Photoshop in order to have assets for the cinemagraph effect to work. The lasers and spot lights weren’t too difficult to remove but the fireworks proved to be a bit more tricky. After I layered them out in Photoshop I brought all the assets into After Effects for the final animation. The entire video also loops for continuous viewing on the social platforms where they were posted.
Below is the original image I worked from for this video. The main challenge with this image was cleaning up all the fireworks in the sky. Once that was complete I added more stars in the sky and a wiggle expression to make them twinkle, a displacement on the water for some subtle motion, and trim paths for the laser highlights. Lastly I masked off some additional color shape layers for a brighter light effect in the sky and added some firework assets.
Below is the original image I worked from for this video. This image proved to be a bit challenging when it came to animating the flying kites. To achieve this effect I animated the kites with the puppet warp and gave them a gentle drifting motion. Similar effects were also used from the above video for the water, lasers and sky.
