Fourth of july

After my Halloween projection of 2021 I wanted to test out using more windows for my Halloween 2022 show. Since Fourth of July was around the corner I used that holiday as a “proof of concept” to test out using more projectors and windows.

With one projector on the downstairs window and 2 more projectors covering 3 windows upstairs, I found a good mix to work with that would cover all the windows in the front.

For the setup I used 3 projectors, over 100ft of HDMI cables, frosted shower curtains, and MadMapper on my laptop. Each window was covered on the inside by the frosted shower curtain. I used frosted since it provided the brightest image on the reverse side and didn’t block too much light from leaking through. Each projector was then plugged into my laptop via HDMI and I began to map it out using MadMapper.

For the show I didn’t want to make anything too complicated since it was a short deadline. In After Effects I gathered some firework assets and began to sequence out the mortar blast coming from the bottom window, and timed it with the firework explosion on the top windows. After repeating that step dozens of times, I had a solid foundation to work with. I then customized the colors and swapped out firework explosions to see which worked best. I then placed audio clips to time up with each mortar and firework explosion and synced it all together.
