Retail Creative
Pixar inspired projection mapping featuring concept art from original Pixar feature animations.
As the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World came to a close, a lot of the 50th branding needed to be replaced with updated content. The Retail Creative team reached out to our team in preparation for the change. We were briefed that the main area of the World of Disney store inside Disney Springs would be re-themed to Pixar. The plan was to use a vast collection of Pixar movie sketches to help bring the area to life with projection mapping on the main wall.
With the idea of hand drawn sketches in mind I worked with my team to brainstorm the animation style we could use for the video. We landed on a style that would mimic the line work and color overlay a traditional 2D artist would use on paper. Each sketch was then carefully outlined in After Effects with the pen tool to reveal the line work below. Then using an alpha matte to reveal the color layer in either a paint brush or water color style. The final look turned out so great, even at such a large scale!
